    NetVista M42 systems are tested for compatibility with the followingoperating systems.

    • Novell Client 4.83 for Windows NT/2000
    • Novell Client 3.3 for Windows 95/98

    Operating System video graphics driver support is required forNetVista M42 graphics capabilities. Although these systems have beencompatibility tested with the above operating systems, additional videodriver support may be required from the operating system vendor.

    BIOS

    FLASH ROM supports Compatibility BIOS (CBIOS) and POST.

    Plug-and-Play Support

    NetVista M42 systems support the plug-and-play specifications thatmake it easier for you to install, upgrade, and make changes to the PC.Plug-and-play systems that use plug-and-play adapter cards areself-configuring.

    The NetVista M42 systems have BIOS support and a plug-and-playutility.

    Advanced Power Management

    IBM NetVista M42 Systems support the APM Specification, Version 1.2.

    APM provides a cooperative environment in which applications,operating systems, and device drivers work together to reduce powerconsumption.

    These IBM NetVista M42 Systems have an APM feature 'standby'. Thispower-management feature places the system in standby mode after auser-defined time interval elapses with no activity. The system resumesoperation when the keyboard or mouse is used. Systems with preinstalledsoftware come with this power-management feature already set up. Thesetup utility program has a default setting of 30 minutes forautomatically initiating power management of the display, processor, andHDD.

    The scheduler feature is used to start events when the system is off.The scheduler can start events such as power-off, power-on, and programinitiation.

    Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) evolved from thepower management architecture used in today's PC. ACPI provides anindustry standard method to control system level resources via theoperating system.

    BIOS Setup Utility

    The BIOS setup utility program also has power management options.This program implements power-saving functions when Power Manager is notinstalled.

    Desktop Management Interface (DMI)

    The IBM NetVista M42 Systems are DMI V2.1 compliant.

    Configuration Installation and Distribution (CID)

    CID is supported on these NetVista M42 systems.
